erbacce-prize for poetry

01/05/18 Poetry Manuscript Value *

Deadline May 1. *Top prize of publication of the winner’s collected poetry in a perfect-bound edition, up to 160 pages. Two runners-up will be published in chapbook form, and four poets will be selected as “featured poets” in the quarterly poetry journal erbacce. Email a 5-page manuscript sample, which may include both published and unpublished poems, as an MS Word attachment to alancorkish@blueyonder.co.uk with your name and postal address in the body of the message. Based in Liverpool, UK, erbacce-press was established to give a voice to new and radical poets – those whose work may not have been accepted elsewhere.

James White Award for Science Fiction 27/04/18 Short Fiction £200

Deadline April 27. Neutral free contest gives 200 pounds and publication in Interzone, a notable science fiction magazine, for unpublished science fiction stories, 1,000-6,000 words, by “non-professional” authors. For the purposes of this competition a “professional author” is defined as a writer with three short story sales to a professional level market or one professionally published novel. Co-sponsored by Interzone, the British Science Fiction Association, and Sector General.

Frontier New Voices Fellowship 01/05/18 Fellowship

Deadlines May 1 , November 1 (don’t enter before July 1; must be received by these dates). Recommended free contest for emerging poets awards a US$500 grant meant to be used toward covering industry submission costs, multiple publications (original poetry and prose) in the journal ‘Frontier Poetry’, participation in their editorial community, and introductions to agents and presses. Entries should include 1-5 poems and a 1-page essay on you, or poetry, or how the fellowship will affect you. For the Summer 2018 fellowship, applicants should be poets aged 50+ with no published full-length collections.

Hilary Weston Writers’ Trust Prize for Nonfiction 16/05/18 Published Prose Book C$60,000

Deadlines March 14, May 16, July 18 (must be received by these dates). Highly recommended free contest from Writers’ Trust of Canada gives top prize of C$60,000 for nonfiction published in Canada between October 1 of the previous year and September 30 of the deadline year by Canadian citizens or permanent residents. Deadline varies depending on when book was published: books published between October 1, 2017 and March 13, 2018 must be received by March 14; those published between March 14 and May 15 must be received by May 16; and those published between May 16 and September 30 must be received by July 18. Publishers should send 5 copies of the book (or 3 bound galleys, to be followed by at least 2 copies of the book). Submit entry form, press kit, and list of titles published by that publisher, to establish eligibility via sponsor’s online form. See website for detailed requirements.
