Tom Howard/Margaret Reid Poetry Contest

  Tom Howard/Margaret Reid Poetry Contest welcomes entries by mail. Send your poem and US $12 entry fee to Winning Writers, Attn: Tom Howard/Margaret Reid Poetry Contest, 351 Pleasant Street, PMB 222, Northampton, MA USA 01060-3961. Cheques must be drawn on US banks. US money orders and currency are also welcome.

Postmark the entry by September 30th. We can include multiple entries in the same envelope. If we prefer to enter online submit at: winningwriters.com/tompoetry

They’ll award US $1,500 to the best poem in any style, and $1,500 to the best poem that rhymes or has a *traditional style. The top 12 poems will be published online. US$4,000 in total prizes. No restriction on country or age of author. Length limit per poem: 250 lines. Judge: S. Mei Sheng Frazier, assisted by Jim DuBois. This contest is sponsored by Winning Writers, one of the “101 Best Websites for Writers” (Writer’s Digest).

*What is traditional verse? For the purpose of the Margaret Reid Prize, a poem in a traditional style employs regular meter and/or rhyme, or is written in a recognized poetic form This includes traditional Western forms such as ballads, sonnets, and blank verse, and Asian forms such as tanka and haiku.
