Writers' Ink at Caledon Public Library

A writer, who me?

Was that one seminar or three?

Too bad not much stuck

Maybe give it no truck?

Way back I talked tech

But now what the heck

Who jives with that?

Not this cool cat!

Sampled writerly groups?

They tied me in loops

Panned my clauses

And not enough pauses

Grammar’s no hit

Despite being a Brit

So I tried out my Scot

But missed the spot

Brogue’s not my thing

Not got a real sting

Told to try harder

Build up my larder

Of wonderful stories

Full of life’s glories

Got to get dialogue

Better than monologue

So I am told

But…I’m not sold

Essay’s my way

But who likes what I say?

I’m too old to make sense

Boomer pretense

Today poetry’s odd

But seems to be God

Everyone likes it

But it’s never a hit

Odd that folk try

For pie in their sky

Some love money

Rather than honey

I want a publisher

More than a rubbisher

I must have an agent

That’s not a tangent

But truly the mark

Of a writer to hark

A man to admire

To be him we aspire

A giant of the quill

Whose words we’ll distill

Down at the library

Churning the literary

Groping for wisdom

But yearning for fandom

Where does this end?

Going round the bend?

Or making a mint?

Let’s give me a hint

Must get off my rump

To get out and stump

And not look askance

At a dollar advance

From a punter somewhere

With no reason to care

Or ability to ferret

Out literary merit

Hey, don’t we all dream

On a recurring theme

Of meeting the chump

Who will treat us as Trump?

Tweet and be sold

To those out in the cold

Who think what they read

Is just what they need.

    I’m feeling so stunned
    and quite moribund.
    You’re so replete
    I won’t try to compete.
