Writers' Ink at Caledon Public Library

Literary Agents Now Have a National Organization

A Professional Association of Canadian Literary Agents (PACLA) has been set up. The agents of PACLA collectively represent more than 1,000 writers and illustrators. One officially designated group provides a point of contact on contractual issues in dealing with agents. The intent is to work closely with book publishers, prize granting organizations, writers associations, booksellers, literary festivals, review media, and educational institutions. PACLA will add a Canadian voice to the global Fair Contract (for authors) Initiative. It plans to meet with government representatives to ensure that a greater number of authors have a stronger voice in policy and legislation that has an impact on the lives of creative artists, and on the health of the book publishing sector.
