Many English-language writers’ contests outside Canada are an option for Canadians to enter. Here are some based in the UK:-

Nottingham Writers’ Club National Writing Competitionan
Deadline: 31st January

Exeter Writers Short Story Competition 2015
Deadline: 28th February

Creative Writing Ink Competition
Deadline: 28th February (and each subsequent month end)

Neil Gunn Writing Competition 2014-15
Deadline: 2nd March 2015

Mslexia Short Story Competition 2015
Deadline: 16th March. Open only to women

Exeter Story Prize 2015
Deadline: 30th April

Erewash Writers’ Group Short Story Competition 2015
Deadline: 24th September

Yeovil Literary Prize has a number of open categories including a wide-open ‘Writing Without Restrictions’ category for unique and inventive writing – from recipes to a mini-saga!  Also novel, short story and poetry categories. Deadline 31st May.
